History[ | ]
And on the pedestal these words appear: 'My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!' Nothing besides remains. - Percy Bysshe Shelley
The development of masonry led to a widespread use of stone in simple structures such as fortifications, but due to the weight and cumbersome nature of stone blocks, more complex structures had to be made of simpler materials. The need for the widespread use of more durable and permanent materials eventually became apparent, forcing ancient artisans to learn new techniques. The biggest problem to overcome was finding a stable way to span the distance between two upright columns or walls using stone blocks. To solve this problem, fundamental architectural elements such as the arch and vault evolved. These basic construction techniques allowed larger and more elaborate buildings to be created from stone and mortar. Many of the buildings erected by these early builders are still standing, a testament to the sound construction techniques employed in their construction.
Compound Improvement Speed[ | ]
Because construction time is one of the most crucial elements to this game, I thought it would be useful to layout specifically how advancing Construction will aid in your construction time.
You may notice from the sections below that each subsequent Construction level improves your building speed by 10%. It's important to keep in mind that this is not an aggregate sum, but rather a compounding formula. In other words, level 3 Construction doesn't increase your building time by 30%, it increases it by 10% then 10% then 10%. One should note that there is a considerable difference between the two, particularly as the level increases.
The Following Formula can be used to determine the effect of your construction level
[Base Building Time]*(0.9)^[Construction Level]
Example: 60*(0.9)^10 = 21.0 seconds
The following table breaks down the compounding build times.
Level | Total % | Compounded % | Adjusted time for 1 minute |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 10% | 10.0% | 54.0 seconds |
2 | 20% | 19.0% | 48.6 seconds |
3 | 30% | 27.1% | 43.7 seconds |
4 | 40% | 34.4% | 39.4 seconds |
5 | 50% | 41.0% | 35.4 seconds |
6 | 60% | 46.9% | 31.8 seconds |
7 | 70% | 52.2% | 28.7 seconds |
8 | 80% | 57.0% | 25.8 seconds |
9 | 90% | 61.3% | 23.2 seconds |
10 | 100% | 65.1% | 21.0 seconds |
If you're having trouble understanding what's happening, consider the first three levels. If it would normally take 60 seconds weight gain to build something, then the level 1 10% reduction would be 6, leaving 54 seconds of build time. Level 2 then takes 10% of the remaining 54 seconds, or 5.4 seconds, bringing the total to 48.6 seconds. Level three then takes 10% of 48.6 seconds, or 4.9 seconds, bringing the total to 43.7 seconds. I'm not exactly sure how the game handles fractional parts of time.
